Moopi Mothibeli

Moopi Mothibeli (MFA '12) was born in Sebokeng, Gauteng, South Africa. He graduated from the Tshwane University of Technology with a BA in Drama. Highlight performances in his early years included roles in a A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Yerma (In Africa), and he played the role of John Proctor in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, directed by Professor Lesley Ferris, as part of an Ohio State Theatre/Tshwane University Drama faculty exchange in 2005.

While at Ohio State Mothibeli  performed in numerous works including This Above All, The Camouflage Project, and a self-devised solo performance entitled Grey-I-Land. He played the role of Othello directed by Alison Bomber, from the Royal Shakespeare Company. He was one of the performers in Ordinal 5, choreographed by Professor Jeanine Thompson that premiered at the Tate Modern in London in 2011. Mothibeli's television debut came in 2014 with a role in one of South Africa’s longest running hit soaps: Generations: The Legacy. He plays the character of Smanga Moroka, a media mogul of royal descent. Mothibeli reports that the Generations  team is finishing their 5th season. It runs runs weekdays on the prime slot of 8pm on SABC 1. Season 6 begins shooting November 25th, 2019.
