College-level Teaching in the Performing Arts: Theatre 8990

Theatre 8990

One of the great ironies of higher education is that it is the only level of teaching that doesn’t require any proof that you are qualified to teach! This May Term, come join in an exploration of the art and practice of developing yourself as a college-level teacher in the arts. In an intensive 4-week term (which runs May 8-June 1), students will explore what it means to be a college teacher in the performing arts. Both formal classroom delivery and experiential teaching will be explored. This graduate-level course builds on a foundation of what each student brings and helps to prepare each for a better classroom experience in their current role, as well as preparing them for that first post-graduate-school teaching post. Taught by former Dean of Arts and Humanities, Mark Shanda, the course blends both the theoretical and practical, celebrating the challenges of college teaching and relishing its potential rewards.
