French filmmaker Claude Humbert discovered a trunk in his great aunt’s attic in Loison, France belonging to Major Arthur Samuel Houts, an American World War I solider from Ohio. This discovery inspired Humbert to follow in the footsteps of Major Houts, retracing the journey from Euclid, Ohio to Montgomery, Alabama, and finally to Montfaucon, France.

Goodbye Cleveland, Hello France, a 55-minute documentary explores the experiences of the 37th Division soldiers in their own words found in their diaries and letters as well as contemporary interviews providing insight into the current conditions of the places the soldiers visited.

The English version of the documentary was voiced with the help of Ohio State University theatre students.
