Be the Street has pulled together faculty and graduate students from five departments - Theatre, Dance, Spanish & Portuguese, English and Comparative Studies. Over the past year, Be the Street has worked with the renowned Albany Park Theater Project (APTP), an award-winning Chicago theatre company, to develop a new community-engagement program in the Hilltop neighborhood. Since the spring of 2017, Be the Street has held over 60 performance workshops with approximately 100 community participants around the Hilltop, including with Homeless Families Foundation, the Hilltop Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Westland Area Library, CleanTurn Enterprises, Our Lady of Guadalupe Center, Hilltonia Middle School, West High School, and the Westland Flea Market. The community workshops culminate in these events where participants will share their experiences with migration, mobility, identity, and place-making in the Hilltop.
