Mime - Theatre 5831

3 units

Mime is the haiku of physical expression. The mime artist cuts away at an idea, like a poet, to reveal the exquisite essence of that idea. Mime makes the invisible visible and tells a story that is universally understood by the heart and mind. Learn about the art of mime, creating illusions, storytelling and applying the physical techniques to live performance, motion capture and virtual reality work.

In this course, we will cover the techniques and styles of Marcel Marceau and Etienne Decroux. This course will include several sessions with motion capture and virtual reality exploration of mime training. These sessions will be held at the Motion Lab located at the OSU Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD). There will also be examination of the Marcel Marceau Archive held at the TRI.
