InterACT – Creation of Outreach Theatre - Theatre 3921S

3:00-5:00      WF      Elizabeth Wellman      3 units

A studio-based, ensemble-centric service-learning course that focuses each semester on a different social justice issue. This ensemble works together to develop and devise a new piece of theatre that speaks to the challenges facing a particular campus community or group, presenting a kind of "theatrical laboratory" to audiences at Ohio State. Over the course of the semester, the ensemble will write, rehearse, and perform the piece or pieces at different venues and events on campus. At the conclusion of the short scripted piece, all actors will remain in character and the audience will be given the opportunity to dialogue with those characters directly, asking questions, offering insight, or re-imagining moments from the play. This course frequently welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and majors.
