Based on a quarter long research project our 10 MFA actors under the careful guidance of Professor John Giffin create and recreate the Wild Stages of 1890-1933. At the end of the 19 th century, dissatisfaction with prevailing forms of artistic expression led theater people, painters, poets, musicians and dancers to experiment with new forms that anticipated the coming of the avant-garde. These forms include popular songs, puppet and shadow shows, poems humorous and satiric, dances, one-act plays, dramatic sketches and monologues. Artists used their marginal genres from folk and popular culture to express their disdain for the art of a society that had become less relevant to them.
