Stratos Constantinidis was awarded a $35,000 fellowship/grant
from the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation which helped
him to do research for six months at four film archives in Greece
in the summer and autumn of 2003. It paid for his round-trip travel
expenses, the cost of his hotel suite in Athens, Greece, and his
meal expenses for six months.
Stratos was elected Head of the MA and PhD Program and participated in the revisions of the graduate
and undergraduate curriculum in terms of course content and credit-hour
values in this program.
He edited Text & Presentation 24 (2003),
212p, which includes sixteen peer-reviewed research papers.
He edited two volumes of the Journal of Modern
Greek Studies 21/2 (2003), 150p. It is the official publication
of the Modern Greek Studies Association of America and Canada.
Stratos wrote an article that was accepted for
publication under the title “Dinos Katsuridis’ What
Did You Do in the War, Thanasis?” in 24 Frames: The
Balkans. Edited by Dina Iordanova. London: Wallflower Press
(forthcoming) and he authored an article that was published in a
peer-reviewed journal under the title “The Greek Studio System
(1950-1970)” Film Criticism XXVII/2 (Winter 2002-03):9-30.
Stratos wrote a book review of Theodoros Grammatas,
The Greek Theatre in the Twentieth Century: Cultural Prototypes.
2 volumes. Athens: Exantas, 2002, 860p.” The review was accepted
for publication in the Journal of Byzantine and Modern Greek
Studies (2003): forthcoming.
Stratos was invited to speak on "Publication
Issues: Bulletins, Bibliographies, Journals, and Conferences"
in Greece. His presentation was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture
of Greece. The session was hosted by Dr. Constantinos Demades, President
of the Modern Greek Studies Association of the European Union, at
the Museum of Byzantine Civilization, Thessaloniki, Greece, March
23.
Stratos was invited to speak on “The Transition
from Folk to Mass Media and Cultures and the Meaning of the ‘Folk’
for Thanasis” in Greece. His presentation was sponsored by
a grant from the European Union and the Regional Council of the
Ionios Sea Islands. The session was hosted by Dr. Theodore Grammatas,
University of Athens, at the Pnevmatiko Center of the Municipality
of Zakynthos on the Island of Zakynthos, Greece, November 23.
Stratos’ recent book, Modern Greek Theatre:
A Quest for Hellenism (McFarland, 2001) were cited in the following
major scholarly publication in 2003: Walter Puchner’s Women
Playwrights during the Years of the Insurrection and Their Plays.
(Drama Series of the Costas & Eleni Ouranis Foundation Publications,
2003).
