How to Apply


Your application file can be evaluated for admission once the appropriate Ohio State offices have received the items listed on below links. Application materials must be sent to two different university offices: the Graduate Admissions Office and the Department of Theatre. Failure to send items to two offices will delay the processing of your application.

 

Application

The Ohio State University requires all graduate applicants to apply online. No paper or downloadable applications are available.

 

Graduate Admissions Office Materials

Have the following items sent directly to the Graduate Admissions Office:

  1. One official copy of transcripts or record of marks for each university-level school attended. Include English translation of each of any foreign documents.
  2. M.A. and Ph.D applicants, and any student whose combined GPA falls below a 3.0, must submit official scores for the GRE.
  3. Offical TOEFL, IELTS or MELAB scores for international applicants or U.S. applicants whose native language is not English.

Department of Theatre (Program) Materials

Please send directly to the Department of Theatre:

  1. One official copy of transcripts or record of marks for each university-level school attended. Include English translation of each of any foreign documents.
  2. A 1-2 page statement of your scholarly and/or artistic interests and future goals.
  3. A resume of your academic and artistic experiences.
  4. Three letters of recommendation from professionals who are acquainted with your academic and artistic work accompanied by the Reference Form.
  5. M.A. and Ph.D. applicants only: a sample of your published or unpublished research work.

  6. M.F.A. Design applicants only: a design portfolio.

  7. M.F.A. Acting applicants only: You are required to be seen at an audition. We participate in the U/RTA auditions (website). We also hold on-site auditions for those who can't attend U/RTAs.

Application Deadlines

November 28 - International Applicants who wish to be considered for a University Fellowship.

January 15 - Domestic Applicants who wish to be considered for a University Fellowship.

March 1 - FAFSA Application due for financial aid (optional, but strongly recommended)

April 15 - Suggested deadline for all other applicants, including those interested in graduate assistantships.  Applications will be accepted after this deadline, however funding priority is given to those who meet the April 15th deadline.  Most decisions on admissions and assistantships are made during the months of March, April and May.
