Larry J. Evans is a native of Columbus, Ohio. In 1969 he received a B.A. in Speech-Theatre from Otterbein College, followed by an M.A. in Theatre from Bowling Green State University. Between 1970 and 1976, he taught with an Arts Impact Team in Columbus, traveled with Alpha Omega Players Repertory Theatre of America, acted in the outdoor historical drama Tecumseh!, and directed a number of community theatre productions in the Columbus area for Players Theatre, Prairie Players, Gallery Players, Curtain Players, Ohio Dominican College, and the Columbus Association of Community Theatres. In 1976, he moved to Mansfield, Ohio, as the Resident Director of The Mansfield Playhouse and as part-time Instructor of Theatre for the OSU-Mansfield Campus; then in 1980 he became a full-time faculty member at the Mansfield Campus. In 1985, with his wife and two daughters, he traveled to Los Angeles to earn a Ph.D in Theatre Arts from UCLA, and then taught at the University of Wisconsin - Marathon Center, before returning to become Associate Professor of Theatre for the Mansfield Campus in 1991. He currently teaches Theatre courses on the Mansfield Campus, including Introduction to Acting, Introduction to Theatre, Script Analysis, Great Ages of the Theatre, and the Theatre Practicum. He also directs one theatre production per quarter and advises the Theta Alpha Phi Drama Club, as well as acting and directing for theatre events in the Mansfield Community, most notably the summer theatre productions at the historic Renaissance Theatre in downtown Mansfield.
