Current Research and Creative Activity

Last winter Julia Weiss revisited the early 1980's by costume designing the department’s production of Division Street directed by Bruce Hermann.. During the spring she assisted in the building of the Veriform thermaplastic figures used for the Hussain Chalayan portion of the Mood River Exhibit at the Wexner Center for the Performing Arts. The forms were clothed Mr. Chalayans’s recent runway garments which were made form everything from cloth and paper to plastic resins. This summer Julia had a chance to return to Thailand where she was able to explore the country more. She and Gayle Strege, the curator for the Historic Costume Collection focused the trip on acquiring the clothing that make up the full ensembles of the various tribes found in the northern portions of the country, known as the Golden Triangle.
