Centered on the visit of Richard II and his queen, Anne, to York during the Easter miracle plays, Two Planks and a Passion is a scathing attack on the extreme social climbing of Yorks ‘top’ families, the Selbys and the Le Kolves; the story of Richard and Anne’s great love, and a gentle study of the painters guild as they bicker over the acting and staging of their Passion Play. Anthony Minghella’s screenplay credits include The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and Cold Mountain.
