Inspired by Federico Garcia Lorca's classic The House of Bernarda Alba, Another Part of the House is written from the point of view of Maria Josefa, Bernarda's mother who is locked away in her bedroom. Maria Josefa, like everyone else in her family, is secretly in love with the mysterious and forbidden Pepe el Romano. She imagines that her pet sheep is really Pepe, the man. Bernarda's youngest daughter, Adela, is Maria Josefa's only friend and confidant. Together they plot to escape Bernarda's tyranny.
