A man murdered. His wife ravaged. Four eyewitnesses.
Four true stories. But who did what—and to whom? In this gripping mystery
based on stories by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, four witnesses to a rape and murder
provide strikingly different accounts of the event. The audience must wade
through the contradictions and omissions to determine the truth.

Acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s 1950 version of Rashomon is a great blend of interesting story and bold storytelling. Continually lauded for its innovative camerawork, editing, and storytelling, its impact has been equated with that of Citizen Kane on US cinema. Professor Naomi Fukumori from the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures will lead a postshow discussion.
