Reverend Billy
Performance Artist Bill Talen presents
Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping
Presented in the Thurber
Theatre
October 22 at 8 PM
"His brand of mock-evangelism poised on the border of belief has risen to lucent prominence in the landscape of radical theater in New York." Jonathan Kalb, The New York Times
Reverend Billy, the creation of performance artist Bill Talen, has been preaching the anti-consumerist gospel from Hong Kong to Lithuania, defending neighborhoods from chain stores, and our identities from the aggression of big media. Since 9/11, like all anti-consumerists, he has become a peace-worker, believing that consumerism as a way of life requires a violent foreign policy.
Co-sponsored by the Department of Comparative Studies.
