This new work explores the relationship between cultural rites of passage,
the experience of being a woman, and the imagery in fairy tales in an attempt
to create a new myth. The character of She is an archetypal heroine who is
based on Allysons own experiences, as well as Gretel, Red Riding Hood,
Rapunzel, Snow Whites Stepmother, the mysterious witch in the woods,
Cinderellas Fairy Godmother, and ultimately, the ancient Earth Goddess.
The Bridge of Bodies
Maria Therese, a young woman who immigrated to the United States from Haiti
at age 11, finds at age 25 that she needs to return to Haiti to discover the
source of the nightmares plaguing her for years. This is the story of a woman
who must bridge the gap between culture and experience to understand who she
truly is.
