Are you a graduate student who is working hard to earn a M.A. degree or a Ph.D. degree in any of the departments in the College of Humanities or the College of the Arts at The Ohio State University? You may consider increasing your employment opportunities by earning an additional degree - a Graduate Minor in Theatre and Performance - from the Department of Theatre.
The Graduate Minor in Theatre and Performance allows M.A. or Ph.D students from departments in the College of Humanities or the College of Arts to develop a supporting program in the Department of Theatre that will complement their own study. If the study of drama, theatre, and performance is vital in your discipline or in your interdisciplinary area, an academic concentration in theatre and performance will serve your academic interests well. The minor is designed for graduate students who plan to write on some aspect of dramatic literature, theatre history, or cultural performance in their own field of study.
The Minor in Theatre and Performance requires four courses with a grade of B or better in each that total 20 credit hours. When completed, this minor will appear on your transcript as a concentration in “Theatre and Performance.” All students pursuing this Minor must take Research Methods (TH 801). If you have taken its equivalent in your home department, then you must take another course from the Department of Theatre. From the remaining three courses, at least one course must be taken in the area of the critical theory of theatre and performance, another course must be taken in the area of the historical study of theatre and performance, and the last course must be taken in the area of literary study.
