Sources for Graduate Funding

Are you in search of funds for thesis or dissertation research, travel, or professional development? Here are some helpful links:

The Graduate School's Financial Support Website
This is a great place to start - it contains information on many of the programs featured below, as well as others you might be eligible for.

Alumni Grants for Graduate Research and Scholarship
The intent of the Alumni Grants for Graduate Research and Scholarship (AGGRS) is to provide dissertation research support to doctoral candidates (or comparable graduate degrees requiring a thesis) who have no research support from their advisor or department due to lack of funds. Although eligibility is based on financial need, awards are based on merit.

Council for Graduate Students Professional Development Fund
The Professional Development Fund (PDF) program encourages and enables graduate students across the university to participate in professional conferences, both in their respective fields and in the broader academic community, by reimbursing or partially reimbursing the expenses incurred by graduate students during travel to conferences and meetings to present original research.

Critical Difference for Women
A variety of grants available to women for thesis/dissertation research and professional development.

Graduate Association Teaching Award
The Graduate Associate Teaching Award (GATA) is the University's highest recognition of the exceptional teaching abilities provided by graduate students. The award parallels the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching, which is presented to faculty members, and includes an honorarium of $1,500 to each recipient. Up to 10 awards are presented annually. The competition for the award is conducted during the Spring Quarter.

Edward F. Hayes Graduate Research Forum
The purposes of the Hayes Research forum are to provide a significant professional development experience for OSU graduate students; to encourage graduate students to share their research with the academic community; to recognize outstanding graduate student scholarship within the University; and to facilitate exchange between students, faculty, administration, and the public.

Students enrolled in any area of graduate study at The Ohio State University are invited to participate. Three cash prizes will be awarded in each of ten academic areas, and the top prize in each category will also include a $500 travel grant for presenting the research at a professional conference.

Presidential and SBC Ameritech Fellowship Competition
The purpose of the fellowship program is 1) to recognize outstanding scholarly accomplishment and potential in graduate students entering the final phase of their dissertation research and 2) to provide financial support to the recipients so that they can devote one year of full time study toward the completion of their dissertations unimpeded by other duties. (In general, eligibility for the Presidential Fellowship is limited to doctoral (Ph.D. and D.M.A.) students. In addition, students in three-year terminal degree programs, such as the Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) who are entering their third year of study and the final stages of their terminal degree projects, are eligible.) Recipients of these awards should embody the highest standards of scholarship in our graduate programs.
